There’ll also be gorgeous pastries and bread from @forgehousebakery Italian treats from @mariellabliss and beautiful flowers from @thecharlburygardener

We are on the hunt for a few more stall holders, for this market and the one in May (18th). If you’re interested do drop a line to chloescharlburyreservations@gmail.com with some info about your stall.

We’ll post the full line-up in due course, but i hope it goes without saying that we can’t wait!

This week’s menu is up! I’m really happy with this little selection of pan-Asian treats inspired by local ingredients.

It’s especially sweet given that we’re just entering the dreaded ‘Hungry Gap’ and we’re making use of a small selection of vegetables we’ve had continuously over the last few months. For the uninitiated the Hungry Gap the bit of the year where growers harvests are very limited and as cooks we lean heavily into purple sprouting, wild garlic, rhubarb, Russian kale and the like whilst we pray for the asparagus and jersey royals to start cropping early!

We would love it if you joined us in celebrating these humble, plentiful resilient crops (mostly from our lovely crew @thekitchengardenpeople and @styanfamilyproduce ) over the next two or 3 weeks. Following on from last nights Long Table I am delighted to announce that we’re hosting two of my favourite women working in food locally for the next one on 19th March.

First up is lovely Kathy Slack aka @gluts_gluttony an amazing food writer, gardener and cook. She will be talking about her recently published memoir ‘Rough Patch’ which takes us on a journey from her heady career in advertising through burnout to arrive at a beautiful embrace with gardening and growing vegetables. It’s a great book which I know will resonate with many of us, including myself. We’ll also be cooking some dishes from the book, so it should be a lovely immersive experience.

We’ll also be joined by Mel Moss from @publichousegroup (owners of our lovely neighbours @thebullcharlbury ) Mel is creating a local education and skills initiative training local young adults in all areas of the hospitality industry. ‘Pub Club’ aims bridge the gap between industry demands and antiquated skill sets and give opportunities to young people who for whatever reason may not fit into a conventional educational setting. Mel will share her own journey from a career in fashion journalism and PR to teaching and education, all of which is underpinned by her family’s strong background in hospitality.

Celebrating our time with beautiful frecciabomb Kate!

Kate came back into my life at Charlbury Farmers Market just two-or-so years ago, freshly back from London. We met when we were kids through my sister, fresh out of art foundation. What a fortuitous second-meeting it was!

For the past two years we have thrown ourselves into this little business bringing with us much gusto and many life experiences.

Paintbrushes, small plates, cinnamon buns, scampi fries, spicy Margs, pints, The Bull garden, Italian nights, pop-ups, The Rosie, Tony’s, Oxinabox awards. Just some of the stuff.

It’s been a ride. Often really hard work, often really fun but always with friendship and love at its core. She has propped me up when things have been tough, been patient when I change things round (for the umpteenth time😬) and fed me chocolate and coffee until my tired bones muster the energy for evening service.

Many of you will be aware of Kate’s exemplary table-side manner, but what you don’t see is the massive amount of leg-work she’s done behind the scenes: accounting, website designing, VAT returns, poster designs, till systems and payroll.

We love and appreciate you @kate_allison_studio and couldn’t have done all this without you. Wishing you so much love and luck in your next chapter. Thank you so much. ❤️❤️❤️

Here is the menu for the next couple of weeks!

This time we’re letting our abundance of @thekitchengardenpeople root vegetables and brassicas take us in an Indian-inspired direction.

Regulars will remember our peshwari sourdough from a while back: made half @henry_bruernfarms wholemeal (for a nutty flavour) and studded with almonds, coconut, tea-soaked sultanas and a flourish of fennel seeds and chilli then doused with Ben’s @evenlode_honey fresh from the oven. We loved it, so we’ve done it again!

Our beetroot samosas with organic feta and Kitchen Garden leeks are inspired by the ones in @meerasodha book Made in India.

We tried out the venison Rogan Josh last week. It’s based on Madhur Jeffrey’s recipe (which I have used again and again) and works beautifully with this most local of meats from just up the road at Ditchley.

Pudding comes in the shape of hyper-seasonal blood oranges in a spiced light caramel sauce with labneh, nuts and seeds and a chocolate orange biscuit. Or you could choose some delicious Yarlington cheese from the lovely folk at @kingstonedairy (a small soft cows cheese washed in cider) with our chutney and organic oatcakes.

Here are some highlights from our stay on Gili Air this Christmas and New Year. I will put all the food recommendations in a separate post, but just wanted to show how truly lovely this beautiful place is (no vehicles here, bikes, horses or foot-based travel only!).

Massive props to our lovely Gili Air hosts Rose and Andreas from @villanangka and their team who made us so welcome. We would definitely recommend a stay with them if you head to this beautiful spot!

And… we’re back!

This week and next week’s menu is inspired by our trip to Bali over Christmas, a lovely Nasi Campur (a version we had at @yellowflowercafe in Ubud is pictured here).

Nasi Campur translates as ‘mixed rice’ it’s a small pile of rice with lots of tasty bits surrounding it. The dish literally changes wherever you have it and whatever the season is. As ever we’re using a bit of artistic license with ours serving with beef or veggie Rendang, cured egg, vegetable urap (a salad with greens and coconut) and lots of other tasty bits.

Martaback is a stuffed bread (or pancake) that we’ve filled with leeks, spring onion, tumeric, spices and egg.

Veggie fritters are a staple with all sorts of meals in Bali, we’re using @thekitchengardenpeople veg (with some frozen organic corn) with spicy tomato sambal (sauce).

Pudding is a burnt baked cheesecake with a nod to one of the most abundant fruits, the pineapple!

Rather than adding a snacks menu in January we’ll be offering individual items from the menu. Typically January is a quieter month in hospitality and people are often cutting back after Christmas so we hope that this will encourage you to pop in!

And… we’re back!

This week and next week’s menu is inspired by our trip to Bali over Christmas, a lovely Nasi Campur (a version we had at @yellowflowercafe in Ubud is pictured here).

Nasi Campur translates as ‘mixed rice’ it’s a small pile of rice with lots of tasty bits surrounding it. The dish literally changes wherever you have it and whatever the season is. As ever we’re using a bit of artistic license with ours serving with beef or veggie Rendang, cured egg, vegetable urap (a salad with greens and coconut) and lots of other tasty bits.

Martaback is a stuffed bread (or pancake) that we’ve filled with leeks, spring onion, tumeric, spices and egg.

Veggie fritters are a staple with all sorts of meals in Bali, we’re using @thekitchengardenpeople veg (with some frozen organic corn) with spicy tomato sambal (sauce).

Pudding is a burnt baked cheesecake with a nod to one of the most abundant fruits, the pineapple!

Rather than adding a snacks menu in January we’ll be offering individual items from the menu. Typically January is a quieter month in hospitality and people are often cutting back after Christmas so we hope that this will encourage you to pop in!

Hooray! Here’s the information about our first Chloe’s Long Table.

We’re thrilled to announce that in January we’ll be hosting the lovely @charlierluxton from @charlieluxtondesign and Charlbrarian Miles Walkden from A Future at Home @milesafah

They’ll both be talking about different aspects of local housing, both in terms of starting new local housing projects and supporting people to stay at home as they age.

Charlie and Miles are both great, passionate speakers who really care about people living their best home life here in the Cotswolds both in terms of design and comfort.

Tickets for this event and all the other Long Tables are £25 and include a welcome drink and a simple 2 course vegetarian dinner and Chloe’s bread. Long Tables incorporate two short talks, sometimes a Q&A and are designed to generate discussion. It’s a great way of meeting new people and learning a bit about something new from people with a real passion for their subject!
